Tamiya Incorporated, founded in 1946, has been manufacturing lines of products from radio-controlled vehicles, track racing cars to display scale models. One such line is motorcycles.

The 2006 MotoGP kit is a stunner. The engineering was incredible. Parts were molded in clear, light green, black & gun metal. Each tree or spruce in a bag. Coil spring, screws, screwdriver, nut & bolt, wrench, quality waterslide decals, rubber tires & poly caps. Multilingual instructions. Only downside is the "overstretched" black tubing with bad kinking.

I always build & paint the body of a vehicle first because it takes time to dry & cure. Like Tamiya's other race bikes, this bike has detachable body parts to show off the innards. I puttied the fuel tank, under cowl & tail cowl, primed the body parts gray & metallic parts black, then airbrushed them light green, black & metallic colors respectively. Priming will make the top color "pop". 2 clear coats. Decals & touch-up (handbrushing). 1 final clear coat. 24-hour drying between coats & final 48-hour curing. Using Tamiya colors will eliminate guesswork & mismatches. Even if you don't paint, the race bike will look nicer & more detailed than a die-cast or chogokin.

Assembly was straightforward. Pay attention to the suspension, wheels, tubing/piping & body. The four-stroke engine was easy. Best scratch the paints off the bond before gluing for stronger bonding. Unfortunately, the body assembly will scratch the paints off a bit.

I am giving this kit a 5 out of 5, taking into consideration of the price, quality, engineering, detail & packaging.
