1/72 F7U-3 Cutlass VF-124/D FJM27010

Highly detailed 1/72 scale assembly model kit of the Vought F7U Cutlass, a single-seat carrier based jet-fighter of the United States Navy in the early 1950's. First introduced in July 1951, the F7U featured a semi-tailless design and low aspect ratio, swept wings that was a radical departure from traditional aircraft design at the time. With the cockpit situated well forward of the fuselage, the F7U offered excellent visibility for the pilot during aircraft carrier approaches, and elevons on trailing edge of the wings were used to provide pitch and roll control. The Cutlass was indeed a futuristic looking aircraft at the time it was introduced; a preview of another twin-tail fighter-jet of the U.S. Navy, the great Grumman F-14 Tomcat that was to come some two decades later. However, despite its revolutionary design concept, the F7U Cutlass suffered from numerous technical and handling problems throughout its short service career, and most notably was the Cutlass underpowered and unreliable Westinghouse turbojets, which help earning the type its unflattering nickname the "Gutless". Only 320 F7Us were produced during the type's short service with the U.S. Navy, and over one quarter of all Cutlasses built were destroyed in accidents. The F7U Cutlass was retired from service in March 1959. This rare 1/72 assembly kit of the F7U by Fujimi features decals for four different aircrafts, and the kit comes with illustrated assembly guide (mostly Japanese with some English instructions).
