When I first heard about the release of DA-28 Striker Prime, I had my expectations pretty high because I was trying to think of what Takara would come up with considering that the last 2 versions of a Leader Class Optimus Prime were incredible which were Jetwing Optimus Prime and of course Buster Optimus Prime.

So my big question was whether or not that Striker Optimus Prime was going to come with a chrome/silver finish like Buster Optimus Prime. The only photo that was available at the time was an unpainted Prime with a big gun. But after they released the official photos, I was on the fence. I'll be completely honest, after the reveal that it was mainly going to include a big gun and a shield felt like it was just another version of Optimus Prime that we already had but I decided to take my chances because the "Stealth" mode did look pretty amazing. So Just told myself, maybe I'll just buy it and then keep it in vehicle mode.

That leap of faith that I took was the best move I made in terms of risky Transformers purchases. When I say risky, I pretty much mean a toy that costs alot of money but I'm not sure if I'm going to like him or not. I am SO glad that I bought DA-28 Striker Optimus Prime because not only does he look amazing with his new gear but the updated color scheme just adds a whole new dimension to the character.

We are used to seeing to versions of the previous prime and the normal version that they sell at US retailers and the Buster version. This is actually something in between because although it was not painted silver, Striker Optimus Prime features 3 different shades of grey and also a darker shade of red. And those new colors were definitely the deal breaker for me. Those extra colors just add such a nice touch to the figure. It really gives Optimus Prime a more defined look and he just looks more sharp and combined with his new hardware, his appearance is really aggressive which is exactly the way his character is in the latest installment.

Although the Striker Optimus Prime version was never actually featured in the movie, what makes this toy even more cool is that the Striker Optimus Prime was actually a concept that could have been used in the movie. It was an idea by one of the concept artists for the movie but it never made it to the final film. But the fact that the toy could've been in the movie makes the figure even more of a collectible item. Takara DA-28 Striker Optimus Prime is highly recommended.
